SSRL Experimental Run Schedule

Review the SPEAR Operating Schedule below for holidays, down times, and maintenance/accelerator physics dates. Links are also provided for the SSRL beam line schedules (X-ray/VUV/Macromolecular Crystallography).

Log into the user portal to view and accept individual beam time assignments.

NOTE:  SSRL and SLAC will be shutdown for the holidays, Dec. 23, 2017 through Jan. 7, 2018. The SSRL website and user portal will be down Dec. 26-31 due a planned SLAC power outage. SSRL beam lines will also be shutdown during these scheduled breaks:  Feb. 26-March 5, 2018, May 29-June 4, 2018, and July 4, 2018. SSRL will shutdown for facility maintenance and upgrades July 23, 2018 through mid October 2018 when the FY2019 user run will resume.

The FY2018 run year began in October 2017 and continues through July 23, 2018. To date we have been able to schedule 1,117 beam time experiments out of the 1,480 requests submitted (~75%). The cut off rating on most beam lines is ~1.4/1.5.

Contact the designated beam line engineer/scientist at least one week prior to arrival to discuss beam line configuration needs and to confirm your estimated start time.

Most beam lines officially turn over to the next user before 3 pm, but usually it is much earlier in the day depending on equipment requirements and staff availability. Plan to arrive early in the morning to assist beam line staff who may have questions about your set up and to complete safety training.

All users must be registered on the SSRL/LCLS user portal and be listed on a scheduled proposal to access SLAC (review procedures).

BRING ORIGINAL IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENTS WHEN VISITING the SLAC SUSB VUE Center and Security Badging Office to obtain an ID badge or renew access. This is required at the start of each run year (October-September).

Please note these upcoming deadlines to submit beam time requests, new proposals, or proposal extensions:

  • Macromolecular Crystallography beam time requests for March-May due January 18.
  • X-ray/VUV beam time requests for April-July 2018 due February 5.
  • Macromolecular Crystallography proposals/extension requests due April 1.
  • X-ray/VUV proposals/extension requests due June 1.
